What we do

ICCO envisages a world without poverty and injustice. Based on this vision, ICCO supports projects that contribute to one of our three main programmes. Policy emphasis may differ from country to country, depending on local political and economic conditions. 

1. Basic social services
   ICCO wants access to decent education, health care, water and food for all.

2. Economic development
   ICCO works at improving the income of small-scale entrepreneurs and their families in developing countries. Read more about our Sustainable and fair economic development programme.
3. Working on democracy and peace
   ICCO supports initiatives that further a stable political situation and the emancipation of underprivileged groups.

In support of these programmes, ICCO provides aid on several levels:

• Funding
  ICCO finances organisations in developing countries. Both businesses and enterprising individuals can turn to Impulsis for financial support. The Impulsis desk is jointly operated by ICCO, Edukans and Kerk in Actie.

• Emergency Aid
  When disaster strikes, ICCO and Kerk in Actie jointly provide assistance to the affected areas. For example, relief was provided in the aftermath of the tsunami in South East Asia, and ICCO also offers assistance in the case of a number of so-called ‘forgotten'disasters.

• Deployment
  ICCO annually sends some 150 experts to developing countries. They use their experience and expertise to help local organisations in their start-up phase.

• Lobby
  ICCO raises awareness among politicians and other policymakers for the problems in developing countries. ICCO also seeks to enhance people's opportunities for economic advancement.

• Advice
  I/C Consult is an internal consultancy bureau founded by ICCO and Cordaid. The activities of I/C Consult are geared towards strengthening organisations in developing countries, co-operation with local experts and the transfer of know-how.
