A different icco
ICCO will change the coming years. It will take on a new function: to connect and strengthen the cooperation between social and religious organisations, citizens, companies, the media, academics and politicians in order to work together on building a more just world - in the South, the North, and globally.
ICCO will take on a new structure: currently we are building a decentralised, internationally functioning network organisation, based on shared responsibility and cooperation. This new organisation should express that representatives of civil society in the South and the North are co-owners of and bear shared responsibility for policies aiming at processes of change in both South and North.
By 2010 ICCO will be transformed into a decentralised, internationally operating network organisation based on shared responsibility and cooperation. Regional offices in 8 regions around the world and an international office in the Netherlands operate together as one coherent organisation, led by the Executive Board of ICCO. In this new network organisation, ICCO's primary work will take place in the South, while the international office in Utrecht will focus on responsibilities at global level and in relation to the Dutch and European community.
We refer to the implementation of this innovative process at ICCO as ProCoDe
- Programme-based approach: as opposed to the traditional support of individual organisations, we will cooperate with alliances of several actors who have decided to cooperate in order to realise joint objectives. Strategic alliances are formed around a particular theme (programme) in a specific geographic setting (country, region, continent). Together they are in a better position to make a profound analysis of the causes of the problems, to develop a joint vision and strategy etc. ICCO will make a significant contribution to this process of alliance building, based on its 4 roles: financing, and facilitating capacity building, lobby and networking.
- Co-responsibility: ICCO policy and strategy will be drawn jointly by people from the South and the North, both at the international and regional levels. In this way, the dominance of the Nothern donor will be reduced and more room will be created for context specific policies and strategies.
- De-centralisation will support and strengthen both Co-responsibility and the Programmatic Approach.
