ICCO & the Dutch Postcode Lottery
Early 2009, ICCO became a beneficiary of the Dutch Postcode Lottery (Nationale Postcode Loterij). By signing the 5 year agreement, ICCO joined the group of 74 charity organisations which are supported by the Lottery. For 2008, ICCO received an amount of 1 million euro. Over 2009, the Lottery contributed 900.000 euro to ICCO.
Background of the Lottery
The Dutch Postcode Lottery was founded in 1989 with the aim to contribute to a fairer, greener world. This is done by increasing public awareness and raising funds through a lottery. Fifty percent its income is used to support organisations who work on poverty alleviation, human rights, nature & environment and social cohesion within the Netherlands. Since its launch, the Postcode lottery has become Holland's biggest and most popular charitable lottery. In total, it has allocated over 2,7 billion euro for good causes worldwide, for NGO's as well as UN organisations.
Once a year, the Lottery's Supervisory Board decides on the allocation of the funds. The number of applications that can be met depends on (the increase in) the Postcode Lottery's takings. Depending on returns and future prospects, the Board admits new charities to the circle of beneficiaries. Such agreements apply for a term of 5 years.
With support of the Lottery
With the Lottery's contribution, ICCO supports, among other things, the work of the Indian organisation Asha Community Health And Development, which focuses on improving the slums in Delhi. ICCO and Asha have been working together for nine years. In the areas where Asha has been active, living conditions have improved significantly. On 8 August 2009, ICCO director Jack van Ham attended a festive event in New Delhi, celebrating that 177 young people from the slums managed to gain access to higher education, thereby much improving their prospects for a bright future.

With its' institutional and un-earmarked support, the Dutch Postcode Lottery is considered a reliable partner that enables ICCO to continue to work in an innovative way on a world without poverty and injustice.
