Consultancy
I/C Consult is ICCO and Cordaid's consultancy service. Its consultants advise partner organisations that Cordaid or ICCO collaborate with.
I/C Consult objectives:
1. Strengthening local organisations
We live in a time of change. Governments are increasingly delegating tasks. The business world is gaining in influence. Developing countries are no longer only receiving development aid, but funds from other sources as well. The traditional boundaries between social organisations, churches and local governments are disappearing. That has a direct effect on development organisations and institutions in developing countries. They are expected to be professional and able to adjust to all these changes. That includes being able to make a thorough analysis of their position and relevance compared to other actors, to have a professional operational management, learn from their own and other people's experiences on a regular basis, and pay attention within their programmes to the specific position, be it different or similar, of men and women. In short, that partner organisations grow to be a strong organisations, that know what they wants and are able to translate these objectives into actual support of the poor and marginalised. I/C Consult helps them with all that.
2. Working together with local experts
Strengthening partner organisations in developing countries does not happen overnight. It is a long and gradual process. But I/C Consult's support on the ground is limited. Eventually, ICCO, Cordaid and their partner organisations will have to rely on their own national experts. When carrying out assignments, I/C Consult regularly colaborates with these experts, who are familiar with the local culture and conditions in their country. Working together also means exchanging knowledge and experience.
3. Passing on experience to Cordaid and ICCO
When working with partner organisations, I/C Consult gathers knowledge about these organisations and their collaboration with Cordaid and ICCO. IC Consult witnesses the manner of consultation and communications between donor and partner and what the outcomes are, and observes what the effects are of the chosen form of funding and the accompanying conditionalities on partners and their programmes. This knowledge constitutes valuable experience that ICCO and Cordaid can benefit from in the execution of their core tasks as a development organisation.
